New Bern police make arrest after man on bike robs woman

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – Police in one Eastern Carolina city say they’ve caught a man for the violent robbery of a woman a week ago.

New Bern police say David Singleton was arrested Sunday and charged with felony common law robbery.

The robbery happened around 5:40 p.m. last Monday in the 2600 block of M.L. King Jr. Boulevard.

The 61-year-old victim told officers that the man on the bike approached her and asked to use her phone. When she refused, the man grabbed her phone and then violently stole her purse, police said.

The woman fell to the ground during the robbery, according to a news release.

Singleton is being held on a $25,000 secured bond.
