New Bern police chief provides no new info on four people shot

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – Police are staying tight-lipped about a shooting Thursday night in New Bern that injured four people.

At an afternoon news conference, Chief Patrick Gallagher noted there have been four shootings in the city since Saturday, including one homicide.

One of those shootings injured four men at a home on New Bern Avenue. The chief said he could not release any details of what happened so as not to jeopardize their investigation.

Gallagher would also not reveal the relationship of the four victims and said they were awaiting updated information from ECU Health Medical Center on their conditions.

There was no information given at the news conference about any suspects or a possible motive.

Two other shootings in the city happened overnight and in one of those several apartments were struck by gunfire.

Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes, who was also at the news conference, pledged support to the city police department in solving these crimes and curbing the violence.

Police ask anyone with information on last night’s shooting, or the homicide from this past weekend to call the New Bern Police Department at 252-633-2020.
