New Bern man arrested for disturbance with a gun

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – A man has been arrested after a disturbance that police say involved a gun.

On March 29th, at around 5:30 p.m. New Bern Police went to the area of the 200 block of Northwood Street.

During their preliminary investigation, police say it was determined a fight had taken place and that a gun had been fired in the direction of the victim. The victim was not hurt.

Police say the suspect, Robert Murphy, 52, was arrested. A search warrant was then executed at his house where police say they found a stolen shotgun. Murphy is facing the following charges:

• Discharge of a Firearm in the City Limits

• Communication of Threats

• Assault with a Deadly Weapon

• Possession of a Firearm by a Felon

• Possession of a Stolen Firearm

Murphy is currently being held in the Craven County Jail under no bond. His first court appearance is set for April 1.
