NCDOT: N.C. 12 on Ocracoke to reopen, water and sand still on roadway

OCRACOKE ISLAND, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina highway on the Outer Banks is scheduled to reopen this afternoon.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation says N.C. 12 on the north side of Ocracoke Island between Pony Pen and the ferry terminal is scheduled to reopen for traffic at 2 p.m.

NCDOT officials warned that there will still be water and sand on the road when it reopens and that drivers should use extra caution and drive at lower speeds.

NCDOT says all other portions of N.C. 12 are open, and that yesterday’s sound-side flooding has receded.
