NCDOT drops proposal to remove traffic lights in Downtown Kinston

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A plan by the North Carolina Department of Transportation to get rid of several traffic lights on Queen Street in Kinston, has now been dropped after not getting the green light from residents at a public hearing.

DOT recently proposed to remove the traffic lights along Queen Street at the intersections of Caswell, Gordon, and North Streets, however many people including the city council were concerned with the request.

DOT said the removal would help with the flow of traffic, but some expressed concerns about the issues it’ll create for pedestrians and those who are handicapped, thus leading to the disapproval of the proposal.
