Navy corpsman charged with Jacksonville toddler murder to appear in court today

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – According to the Onslow County District Attorney’s Office, a man charged with an open count of murder for the 2020 death of a toddler will appear in court Tuesday morning.

Ricardo Montesinos is facing charges for killing a Jacksonville toddler on New Year’s Day in 2020.

The Jacksonville Police Department says back on January 1st, 2020, they responded to a medical call at Ravenwood Apartments, where, despite life-saving measures, two-year-old Annaley Ratliff died.

At the time of Ratliff’s death, Montesinos was on active duty.

Montesinos’s first court appearance was on January 4th, 2020. There, the then 24-year-old refused a court-appointed attorney, and he was ordered by a judge to be held in the Onslow County jail with bond.

Police haven’t said yet the connection between the corpsman and the toddler, but Camp Lejeune says the victim was the daughter of Montesinos’ fiancee.

Montesinos’s court appearance is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., according to officials.
