Nash County man faces 74 felony charges for insurance fraud

FARMVILLE, N.C. (WITN) -North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey says an insurance agent faces 74 felony charges.

Jonathan Michael Vlasak, 35, of 4388 Sandy Pine Court, Battleboro, was arrested on multiple charges.

Vlasak is charged with 25 counts of forgery, 25 counts of identity theft, 22 counts of obtaining property by false pretense, and two counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense.

Special agents from the N.C. Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division say that Vlasak allegedly assumed the identities of 16 individuals.

Under their names, Vlasak forged life insurance applications to secure funds, and collected $8,256.07 from Occidental Life Insurance Co. of North Carolina and an additional $3,751.48 from Americo Life Insurance Co. of North Carolina across 22 separate instances.

They say the offenses took place between Aug. 23, 2022, and Oct. 25, 2022.

Vlasak was taken into custody on June 4 and released on a $100,000 secured bond and a $10,000 unsecured bond.
