WILSON COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Deputies in one Eastern Carolina county have released more information on weekend shootings that left two people dead and three others wounded.
Around 5:00 a.m. Sunday, Wilson County deputies found two people shot on Weaver Circle in Sharpsburg.
Deputies say the suspected gunman, Daquan Jones, of Rocky Mount, dropped off his 6-year-old daughter at a home who had also been shot, before going to another home on Jamie Road in Nash County.
There Nash County deputies found Jones dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while Kiera Massenburg was dead in the man’s car. Deputies say Jones and Massenburg lived together and were parents of Zoey Jones, who remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
The other people shot at the Wilson County home, Makyah Page and Devonte Ricks, were friends of the couple. The 27-year-old Page is recovering, while the 30-year-old Ricks is in critical condition, according to deputies.
“An incident like this is disheartening to the community and to the families that will endure this pain for the rest of their lives,” said Wilson County Sheriff Calvin Woodard. “This does not make any sense when you see someone who could’ve taken a second chance in life to change his behavior. His actions have restricted a child from having a chance to enjoy life, play with dolls, go to prom and tell her mother that she loves her every day. Prayers definitely go out to the family as the system needs to work more to protect innocent people from gun violence.” N) – More details are being released on a murder-suicide investigation that is spanning two counties.
