Multi-county car chase ends in crash involving deputy patrol car

CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A multi-county car chase early Monday morning started with a car trying to hit a police officer, and ended with a crash involving a deputy’s patrol car.

Kinston police say the chase began after 1 a.m. Monday on Hill Farm Road in Kinston. Officers said they were checking out a suspicious car behind Premiere Theatre and they began speaking with two juveniles inside the car when it tried to back over one of them.

The officer jumped out of the way and wasn’t hurt.

A chase reaching speeds of 120 miles per hour went through Lenoir, Jones, and Craven Counties.

Deputies in Craven County say it ended at the traffic circle on Broad Street in New Bern when the driver lost control. Craven County deputies say the patrol car received minor damage and no one was hurt.

The two teenagers were taken into custody and charges are pending in Kinston for assault with a deadly weapon, felony flee to elude, and numerous other traffic violations.
