Morehead City sewage spill gets into Bogue Sound

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) – Morehead City says tree roots damaging pipes caused a sewage spill on Monday.

The town says some 1,500 gallons of sewage spilled at South Coral Drive near the Virginia Avenue intersection.

The sewage got into Peletier Creek and made its way into Bogue Sound.

Crews were on site within ten minutes of the discovery and Morehead City says all repairs were completed within an hour.

The Division of Water Resources has been notified of the sewage spill.
