Morehead City fiber optic cable contractor’s truck goes up in flames

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) – Fire crews were busy Monday afternoon after a contractor’s fiber optic cable truck caught fire.

Morehead City Fire-EMS said they responded to Cypress Bay Plaza around 2 p.m. for a vehicle fire.

Officials tell us that the contractor was laying a fiber optic line when the truck got stuck, and a fire sparked.

The contractor was able to safely escape and firefighters were able to control the blaze around the truck and nearby vegetation.

The Newport Fire Department assisted crews at the scene.
