Morehead City employees getting critical pay raises

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) – Employees in one Eastern Carolina town will soon see pay raises, thanks to a study that shows they were not being paid enough.

Morehead City Council unanimously approved the $1.26 million in pay hikes at a special meeting on Tuesday.

The town called it a critical pay increase that would help align their salaries with other cities and towns in the region.

For example, new police officers had a starting pay of $46,911 a year. That will jump to $55,113.

A firefighter-paramedic starting pay will go from $58,660 to $69,864 yearly.

Employees will start seeing the higher pay with their paychecks in mid-April.
