Miss Grifton Shad Queen pageant coming April 13th

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The Miss Grifton Shad Queen pageant is being held on April 13th and will be the kickoff event for the Shad Festival that is held every year in Grifton, NC.

The event starts at 7 p.m. and doors will open at 6 p.m. It will be a $5 admission at the door. The event will take place in the Grifton School Auditorium in Grifton, NC.

This year makes 52 years of the Grifton Shad Festival. The pageant theme is “Starry Night in Grifton”.

The current queen is Miss. Aaliyah Hewett. A senior at Ayden-Grifton High School. Her mother, Annette Dixon, was crowned Miss Grifton in 1995.

Miss Grifton Shad Queen is awarded a $500 scholarship to any college of their choice.

Phases of competition include interview, interview look, on-stage question, evening gown, and a pre-scored essay.

The pageant is doing People’s Choice again this year! This takes place during the pageant— where spectators, friends, and family vote for their favorite contestant by placing money in their corresponding boxes. The winner of this is awarded a plaque and a $100 scholarship to their college of choice.
