Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots grow, total over $1.2 billion

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – Players in the east have two chances for big prizes tonight and tomorrow night.

The North Carolina Education Lottery announced lottery jackpots have exceeded $1.2 billion in total with no winner yet.

Tonight’s Mega Millions’ drawing has a $687 million jackpot as an annuity or $332.3 million in cash. This jackpot stands as the sixth largest in the game’s history.

Saturday’s Powerball has a $521 million jackpot as an annuity or $249.6 million in cash.

“Powerball and Mega Millions continue to grow at the same time and that has created a lot of excitement about the size of the jackpots,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. “We have seen lots of nice wins recently in both games. Hopefully, we will see even more this weekend.”

The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
