Mega Millions and Powerball break records, $1.9 billion jackpots combined

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – For the first time in history, both Mega Millions and Powerball hold jackpots at or exceeding $800 million at the same time.

The North Carolina Education Lottery has announced that both Mega Millions and Powerball’s jackpots have continued to rise.

The next Mega Millions drawing, tomorrow, will have on the line a $1.1 billion dollar jackpot. The winner of that can either take the jackpot as an annuity or $525.8 million in cash. This jackpot is the fifth largest in the game’s history.

A winner in tonight’s Powerball drawing will take home either the $800 jackpot as an annuity or $384.8 million in cash. This jackpot is the sixth largest in the game’s history.

“We saw a lot of nice wins for players on both Powerball and Mega Millions over the weekend,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. “Let’s hope the good luck continues this week with a jackpot win in North Carolina. Good luck.”

The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
