Mass layoffs announced at Craven County manufacturer

CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A Craven County company has announced what they call a mass layoff at their facility.

Wirthwein New Bern Corp. told the Department of Commerce that it plans to terminate as many as 120 of its workers in two months.

The company has a plant on Industrial Drive, which is along U.S. 70, west of New Bern.

Wirthwein makes plastic parts for dishwashers, and for the automotive industry and was founded in 2003. Until 2020, it was called Carolina Technical Plastics Corp.

The company says it is consolidating its appliance business, and as a result, other businesses, such as automotive and new energy, will move out of the Craven County facility.
