Man sentenced for Pitt County drunk driving accident that killed elderly woman

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina man will spend at least the next six and a half years in prison for a crash that killed an elderly woman just over a year ago.

Last Friday a Pitt County Superior Court jury found Brandon Creighton guilty of felony death by vehicle, felony serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, reckless driving to endanger, and failure to maintain lane control.

Judge Marvin Blount sentenced Creighton on Thursday to between six and a half to ten years in prison.

It was back on April 17th of 2023 that investigators said that Creighton was driving on Greenville Boulevard at around 80 mph and with a BAC of .20, almost three times higher than the legal limit.

Officials said Creighton tried to change lanes and hit a truck next to him, causing the truck to drive across a grassy median into oncoming traffic.

The truck would crash into a vehicle with two elderly people inside including 81-year-old Deloris Pierce, of Macon.

Pierce was killed in the crash and the other person inside suffered permanent serious injury.

Creighton had a prior conviction for DWI.
