Man facing multiple charges in Edgecombe County triple fatal crash

EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A Tarboro man is facing multiple charges after three people were killed in a drunk driving crash this weekend in Edgecombe County.

Jerry Pollard is charged with three counts of felony death by motor vehicle, felony serious injury by motor vehicle, driving while impaired, speeding, reckless driving, fail to maintain lane, a driving left of center.

The two-vehicle crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on U.S. 64 Alternate, west of Kingsboro Road.

Killed was Pollard’s 19-year-old son from Bethel, Jeremy, as well as 34-year-old Brittany Armstrong, of Tarboro, and 19-year-old Jhawaiun Drake, of Rocky Mount. Troopers say all three were passengers in Pollard’s vehicle.

Another passenger, 30-year-old Morgan Page, of Tarboro, is in critical condition at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

The driver of the other vehicle. 61-year-old Wessie Jones, Jr., of Rocky Mount, was taken to Nash UNC Health Care with injuries.

The Highway Patrol says Pollard was heading east on the highway and speeding. They say the man lost control, crossed the centerline, and hit Jones’ vehicle.

The highway was shut down Saturday night due to the crash.
