Man facing drug charges in Pitt County and Virginia

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Deputies say a man wanted in Virginia gave them a fake name when he was arrested last week here in Eastern Carolina.

William Townsend is being held at the Pitt County jail without bond.

Deputies say they have since learned that Townsend has charges waiting for him in Virginia.

The 30-year-old Townsend was stopped late Friday at the Speedway on U.S. 264 at Bostic Drive.

At first, deputies say Townsend gave them the name of Kody Townsend. But later they learned his name was William Townsend, that being confirmed through fingerprints.

Inside Townsend’s vehicle, deputies say they found a large amount of marijuana.

He’s been charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and felony carrying a concealed gun.

Townsend is wanted in Virginia on multiple charges including marijuana sell/give/distribute 1 oz-5 pounds.
