Man drowns in Surf City as Ernesto churns ocean waters

Officials say advanced life support measures were taken but the victim did not survive.

SURF CITY, N.C. (WITN) – Authorities have released the name of the person who drowned in the waters of Surf City on Saturday.

According to the Town of Surf City, the victim was identified as 41-year-old Sean A. Davis of Hampstead.

They say at 2:46 pm emergency crews responded to a swimmer in distress near Beach Access #10.

When Ocean Rescue personnel arrived, two Surf City Fire Department Ocean Rescues Swimmers retrieved him from the water.

Authorities say the victim was found unresponsive, and Surf City Fire Department started CPR immediately once the victim was on the beach.

Pender EMS and Fire and the Surf City Fire Department personnel administered advanced life support measures, however, the victim did not survive.

The Surf City Fire Department urges beachgoers to pay attention to the ocean conditions and never swim alone.

According to Meteorologist Russell James, low tide occurred around 2:24 pm this afternoon, with temperatures in the 80s, under mostly sunny skies.
