GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The Greenville Police Department says an 18-year-old investigation is finally closed after a jury found a man guilty.
Officers say they were called on July 6th, 2009 to the home of a woman for an assault, rape, and armed robbery. Officials say they weren’t able to identify a suspect until 2022.
In July 2022, the Raliegh Police Department announced the arrest of Kevin Parker for two rapes in their city in 2018 and 2019 after the FBI was able to link the 46-year-old man through a DNA profile.
Efforts by Greenville police, the Raleigh Police Department, and the N.C. State Crime Laboratory with DNA technology eventually brought first-degree rape, first-degree sexual offense, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and other charges against Parker.
This week, Parker was given a guilty verdict by a jury and sentenced to 54 to almost 67 years in prison.
Officials say in court that evidence was presented from the original 2006 investigation by Greenville Police Department Major Tara Stanton. Current and former Greenville officers testified along with four State Crime Laboratory DNA analysts, the sexual assault nurse from 2006, and the victim.
