Man charged after deputies say he punched mom, causing her to crash vehicle

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Deputies say a man punched his mother, causing her to crash the vehicle they were in early Monday morning.

Omarr Johnson was charged with assault by strangulation, crime of domestic violence, and resisting a public officer.

Around 6:00 a.m., deputies were called to a vehicle crash on Highway 11 just outside of Grifton. A passing motorist stopped to help those in the vehicle, and saw Johnson assaulting his mother, Lenoir County deputies say.

When deputies arrived, they saw the 30-year-old Johnson walking away from the crash. After a brief struggle, the Kinston man was taken into custody.

Deputies say their investigation showed that the man punched his mother in the head and face, causing her to lose control of the vehicle, then after the crash, he choked the woman and threatened her with more violence.

Johnson was jailed without bond.
