Man arrested on gun charges after shots fired call in New Bern

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – A man is behind bars after a shots fired complaint on Friday night in New Bern.

According to the New Bern Police Department, at 8:40 pm a concerned citizen called to report hearing gunshots near the area of G Street and Biddle Street.

When they arrived, they say they located several witnesses leading the investigation to an apartment located at 1122 G Street.

The city’s Violent Crime Unit then gained sufficient probable cause to secure a search warrant for 1133 G Street, Apartment B.

Authorities recovered a firearm believed to be linked to the earlier incident.

Police say in addition to seizing the weapon, 63-year-old Richard Fonville was arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Discharge Firearm in City Limits.

He is currently held at the Craven County Jail under no bond. His first appearance is set for January 29, 2024, in Craven County District Court.
