Major damage at Kinston Jetport from last night’s storm

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – There was major damage at the Kinston Jetport from last night’s storm.

A hangar at flyExclusive had part of its roof torn off. Chip Towery with flyExclusive says they now have a team assessing the damage.

He said there doesn’t appear to be any damage to any of their aircraft. Towery described it as an older hangar that is used for maintenance and storage of jets.

Lenoir County 911 received multiple reports of trees and power lines down in the Sandy Bottom area near Hwy 55 West and NC 903 South.

Lenoir County Emergency Services Director Murry Stroud says a few residents in the area also reported seeing a possible tornado.

The Sandy Bottom Fire Department worked to remove trees and Tri-County EMC has been notified.

Stroud said up to 200 residents were without power.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Lenoir County around 8:25 p.m. It said radar indicated the storm was capable of producing 60 mile per hour winds.
