GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The Little League Softball World Series kicked off in an Eastern Carolina city with its first sets of games.
Hundreds of softball fans flooded the seats at Stallings Stadium in Greenville Sunday to cheer on their team at the World Series, with an outstanding fan favorite.
“I’ve been here for 8 hours and I’m supporting North Carolina,” attendee Wyatt Zigas said.
The North Carolina Region went up against Asia-Pacific with the game being a blowout, 10-0 with North Carolina taking home the win.
The parking lot in Elm Street Park was filled with tons of games and activities for families to enjoy such as a batting cage and a coloring lounge.
Although everyone was eager to watch the games, rain began to hit the field causing a weather delay. This resulted in some people leaving, however many decided to stick it out to support their teams.
Anna Autry is one of the people who decided to stick out the dreadful weather and said she loves coming to the softball world series as they give a chance for girls to play the sport they love.
“They let women play sports and make it a fair chance for every single girl in the United States,” Autry said.
Fans, families, and friends are now leaving a message for the young athletes as they hit the field, fighting for the championship title.
“Just be good no matter win or lose just be confident and do your best,” attendee Sawyer Corley said.
Earlier games on Sunday also include the West Region vs. Mid-Atlantic Region ending with the West Region taking the win 2-1. The Southwest Region bested the Northwest Region with a 5-0 win, and the Central Region clutched the win against the Latin America Region 6-0.
North Carolina will now face Europe-Africa on Monday at 4 p.m.
