Lenoir County deputies investigate woman shot after accident

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A woman was seriously wounded in a shooting last night in Lenoir County and two people are in custody.

Sheriff Jackie Rogers says the shooting happened at a home on Highway 55 West around 7:30 p.m.

He said the woman was involved in a traffic accident at the Lighthouse Food Mart, at Highway 11 and 55, and that those involved followed her to the home on Highway 55 about two miles away where the shooting happened.

Deputies alerted nearby departments and the sheriff said a Kinston police officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle at Skinner’s Bypass. He said a woman and an underage teen were taken into custody.

The victim was taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

The sheriff said more information on the shooting and the arrests will be released shortly.
