Kinston man facing charges in two counties including attempted murder

JONES COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A Kinston man is facing charges in two counties, including attempted first degree murder.

Jones County deputies say back on February 25th, Jonathan Lee broke into a woman’s home on Middle Road and tried to cut her throat.

The victim’s teenage son intervened, potentially saving his mother’s life, according to deputies. Deputies say the 34-year-old woman had an active domestic violence protection order against Jones.

The 46-year-old Lee headed toward Kinston in a stolen vehicle, deputies say. He crashed on Highway 58 near Southwood and was taken into custody.

Kinston police said a vehicle fire and a stolen vehicle that happened before the attempted murder were connected to the Jones County case.

In Jones County, Lee is charged with attempted first degree murder, felony break/enter to terrorize, and a domestic violence protection order violation with a deadly weapon. In Lenoir County, he is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, and felony burning of personal property.

Lee is in jail on a $250,000 secured bond.
