Kinston home heavily damaged in Sunday fire

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – A Kinston home was heavily damaged in a fire yesterday afternoon.

Kinston Fire & Rescue says they were called to the home in the 2300 block of Carey Road around 12:20 p.m. to find the one-story home about 50% involved in fire.

Because of a partial collapse, firefighters moved to a defensive mode, according to a news release.

One resident was taken to UNC Lenoir Health Care as a precaution and later released.

A neighboring home also received some damage because of the intense heat, while two cars were also lost.

The fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes and its cause remains under investigation.

Family members say the couple was watching television when a passerby saw smoke and alerted them to the fire.

The family says a GoFundMe account has been set up to help the couple.
