Kids’ rhyme leads Onslow Co. man to $200,000 win

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – A man in Sneads Ferry couldn’t decide which ticket to buy so he relied on a children’s rhyme for that choice and won big.

Shawn Horsley Jr. won the first $200,000 prize from the new Pot of Gold game, reports the North Carolina Education, and he made his decision based on ‘eeny, meeny, miny, moe’.

Horsley couldn’t decide which ticket to get, but he was glad he made the right choice.

“I double, triple, quadruple checked it,” he recalled. “We started crying when we saw it.”

Horsley took home $143,011 after federal and state taxes. He plans to use his winnings to fix up his house, help some people, and save the rest.

Three more $200,000 with Pot of Gold are available, according to the lottery.
