Jacksonville Red Lobster on latest list of locations that could close

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN/CNN) – An Eastern Carolina Red Lobster is on the latest list of locations that could close.

CNN says the Red Lobster on Western Boulevard in Jacksonville is one of two North Carolina locations that could soon close. The other is in Cary.

The company, which became the world’s largest seafood restaurant chain, filed for bankruptcy last month and wants to shutter several dozen more restaurants.

Red Lobster said it has more than $1 billion in debt and less than $30 million in cash on hand.

The chain plans to sell its business to its lenders in return for financing to keep operating.

Part of the plan is to close some of its nearly 600 restaurants.

Red Lobster already closed roughly 50 U.S. locations a few weeks before bankruptcy.

The latest list was revealed in court filings last week. They all could be shuttered if they can’t renegotiate their leases, according to CNN.

The only other Red Lobster in our area is in Greenville, while the Rocky Mount location closed last month.
