Jacksonville apartments evacuated due to chemical spill

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A hazmat situation forced people living in a Jacksonville apartment complex to evacuate Tuesday morning.

Onslow County Emergency Services Director Norm Bryson says Arlington West residents needed to clear the area because of a chemical spill on New Frontier Way.

Public safety crews are on scene with an evacuation zone set up. In addition to Jacksonville Fire Department, the North Carolina Hazardous Material Rescue Response Team is at the scene.

Businesses in that area are staying open, but to be safe, drivers are asked to avoid the area between Gum Branch Road and Williamsburg Parkway until it’s cleared.

WITN has a crew on the way to learn more information.
