J.H. Rose student killed last week in Highway 11 crash funeral today

WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The J.H. Rose High School student killed in a collision last week is being laid to rest Wednesday morning.

According to an obituary, Caroline Lupton’s funeral service is this morning at 11 a.m.

Lupton died from a crash that happened last Wednesday at the intersection of Beacon Drive on Highway 11 near Fred’s Food Club.

The girl was 15 years old and in the ninth grade at Rose.

A commercial box truck slammed into the back of a car that was heading south on Highway 11.

Winterville Interim Police Chief Chris Williams said the District Attorney’s Office is now looking at what possible charges to bring in the case.

Before attending Rose, Lupton graduated from Winterville Charter Academy, while her mother teaches there and her younger sister is a student.

A fundraiser has been established to build a serenity garden at Winterville Charter in memory of the teen.

“This garden will be a place of remembrance and growth just as her legacy will grow forever,” said the post on GoFundMe.
