Investigation says Greenville house fire accidental

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A fire that significantly damaged a Greenville home has been ruled an accident.

The fire started around 9:00 p.m. Tuesday on River Hill Drive.

Greenville Fire/Rescue says 28 firefighters brought the blaze under control in 15 minutes.

Investigators say the fire began in a trash can on the side of the porch. Inside the trash can they found thrown away smoking materials.

Four people who lived in the home along with a pet were displaced and received help from the American Red Cross.

The fire department said no one was injured.
