Internet, phones back up on Ocracoke Island

OCRACOKE, N.C. (WITN) – Phone and internet service is back online for one island on the Outer Banks.

Hyde County says they are getting reports that service has been restored on Ocracoke Island.

Both Ocracoke and Hatteras islands became unplugged this morning after a fiber optic line was damaged near the Pea Island Visitor Center again, impacting virtually all communications on the two islands.

WITN has a call into Dare County, but since the fiber line comes from that area, it is believed that service is also back on for Hatteras Island.

Last May, the same thing happened to the two islands and service wasn’t restored until the next day.
