House votes to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas tonight

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Tonight the House is expected to vote for the second time in a week to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after he narrowly survived last week’s vote.

Republicans made it clear they would vote again once House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who had been undergoing cancer treatment, returned. In hopes the extra vote will result in the impeachment.

Republicans assert that Mayorkas should be charged with high crimes and misdemeanors. Mayorkas and Democrats say it’s a matter of policy differences and extra Republican political points for the upcoming election, NBC News reports.

“This is an absolute disaster, there’s no other way to describe it. And it’s a self-inflicted disaster. President Biden on day one flew open the doors and literally millions of individuals have come in our border. His henchman is Mayorkas who is doing all these things fully knowing it’s destroying so much of the fabric of the country,” NC Republican Representative, Greg Murphy said.”

Mayorkas was first accused of releasing migrants into the U.S. who should have been detained. The other article accuses him of lying to lawmakers about the southern border being secure, according to NBC News.

Representative Murphy says the vote should start tonight around 6:30 p.m.
