Highway Patrol says pedestrian killed, second one seriously injured in Pitt County crash

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – The Highway Patrol has released more information on a deadly crash that happened Monday night in Pitt County.

It happened around 8:15 p.m. on Highway 11, south of Bethel near North Pitt High School, with the road closed in both directions near Hollowell Road for about three hours.

The crash involved three vehicles and two pedestrians.

One of the pedestrians, Qua’tityana Whitaker, 24, of Battleboro, was struck and killed at the scene. Another pedestrian, Antoine Lyons, Jr., 26, also from Battleboro, is at ECU Health Medical Center with serious injuries.

The vehicles in the crash were a Toyota SUV, an Infinity, and a Hyundai.

Troopers say two passengers in the Infinity, a 24-year-old woman and a small child, had minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol says the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
