Highway 12 & ferries remain closed on Ocracoke

This weekend’s stormy weather closed the highway from the National Park Service Pony Pens and the ferry terminal.

OCRACOKE ISLAND, N.C. (WITN) – Highway 12 will stay closed on Ocracoke Island, impacting ferry service between the two islands.

This weekend’s stormy weather closed the highway from the National Park Service Pony Pens to the ferry terminal at the north end of the island. Sand and overwash on the road continue to be a problem, according to the Department of Transportation.
