Heavy traffic on U.S. 70 heading to Cherry Point Air Show

CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – As thousands head to the 2024 Cherry Point Air Show, the heavy traffic is making getting on base to see the event incredibly long or even making travelers turn around.

Cherry Point and U.S. 70 have been experiencing heavy traffic, where people are reporting being stuck in traffic for several hours. GPS monitors are even saying 1-2 hours to drive less than 2 miles.

Our Amarachi Uche, who has been trying to get on base to cover the actual air show, is on the road and following the story.

Uche says two minor accidents were seen along the way with state troopers on the scene.

She says that drivers have appeared so fed up that they’ve decided to turn around.

WITN is working to get comment from the Marine Corps about the lengthy delay.
