“He was everything to us”: Loved ones of Greene County teen killed in shooting speak out

GREENE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) -The family of a teenager in the east, who was killed in a shooting last weekend, is speaking out one day after an arrest was made in his murder.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office charged 20-year-old Ja’von Dodd with the murder of 17-year-old Anthony Williams Wednesday.

Deputies say the shooting happened on Rory Drive in Maury Sunday afternoon.

Williams’ family says he was a gentle soul, who loved his family, especially his siblings.

Stephanie Dixon, whom Williams called his grandmother, says she’d been raising him for the past few years.

She and Williams’ sister Naryah Worthington say his death doesn’t seem real.

“I always told him to stay out of trouble and he’d say alright grandma, I am,” Dixon said. “It just hurts me to my heart because he didn’t deserve it.”

“People might see me smiling, but I’ve really been crying and going through it because that was only understandable brother close in age,” Worthington said. “It’s going to hurt for a while, but I’ll post him every single day and never let his name die.”

Dodd is currently being held without bond, but Williams’ family says they suspect more arrests.

The sheriff’s office says it’s investigating a motive in the deadly shooting. Williams’ family has started a GoFundMe.
