Havelock reports fifth sewage spill of 2024

Officials in Havelock say that the city has experienced another sewage spill. This is Havelock’s fifth, and smallest, sewage spill that officials have reported in 2024.

HAVELOCK, N.C. (WITN) – Officials in Havelock say that the city has experienced another sewage spill.

In a public notice sent out by officials Friday afternoon, officials say that around 3000 gallons of sewage spilled through a manhole on Main Street and went into the water of Joe’s Branch.

This is Havelock’s fifth, and smallest, sewage spill that officials have reported in 2024.

In January the city reported spills twice, the first was roughly half a million gallons and the second was around 4,500 gallons.

In March 6000 gallons of sewage spilled from a manhole on Pine Street and entered surface waters at Joe’s Branch with a second spill the same day being reported where 585,000 gallons spilled at the wastewater treatment plant on Jackson Drive. According to officials, 250,000 gallons of that spill got into the marsh behind the plant, which is close to the bank of the East Prong of Slocum Creek.
