Halifax County man critically wounded after armed standoff

SCOTLAND NECK, N.C. (WITN) – A Halifax County man was critically shot by a deputy sheriff after an armed standoff.

Deputies say it started around 2:40 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Highway 125 and Grasunan Road in Scotland Neck.

James Lee, Jr. had a handgun and was making threats, according to deputies.

Around 5:45 p.m. “a weapon was displayed resulting in shots being fired,” according to a news release.

The 62-year-old Lee was taken to a trauma center where deputies say he is in critical but stable condition.

The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting.
