Half a million gallons of sewage overflows in Havelock

HAVELOCK, N.C. (WITN) – Havelock officials say that a half million gallons of sewage has spilled at the wastewater treatment plant on Jackson Drive.

According to officials with the City of Havelock, the spill started at a broken underground line that was connected to an effluent line from the first-stage aeration basin on Sunday.

Officials say that sewage was found settled in the woods, the marsh area behind the wastewater treatment plant, and the east prong of Slocum Creek.

Officials say that cleanup for the spill is underway.
