WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Students and staff at an Eastern Carolina community college were told to shelter in place for a short time late this morning.
Pitt Community College police put out the emergency alert around 11:47 a.m. after Pitt County deputies told them of a person with a gun possibly driving through campus in a red truck. The alert said everyone on campus should shelter in place.
Police actively looked for the vehicle and at 11:56 a.m. another alert went out saying police believed the person had left campus.
PCC says just after noon the final alert told those on campus they could resume normal operations while police were increasing patrols throughout campus.
