Greenville police catch driver who took out utility pole

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Police say they have nabbed a driver who caused a big traffic mess for nearly three hours this morning.

Greenville police say a car took out a utility pole around 6:30 a.m., closing down the intersection of Greenville Boulevard and 10th Street.

The busy intersection was closed until around 9:00 a.m.

Police say they used city cameras to track down the driver. A spokeswoman said the man has been charged but didn’t immediately have his name available.

This is the second hit-and-run utility pole collision in Greenville in two weeks. WITN reported on Valentine’s Day, a car traveling down Hooker Road turned on Sylvan Drive and hit a utility pole, bringing it to the ground.

Police used city cameras in that case as well to get the license plate of the van and charged that driver with hit and run, leave scene of property damage, failure to maintain lane, and driving while license revoked.
