Greenville man charged with stealing car with six-month-old inside

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A Greenville man is facing multiple charges after police say he stole a car with a six-month-old baby in the back seat.

Antonio Taylor was arrested for second-degree kidnapping, larceny of motor vehicle, and possession of stolen motor vehicle.

Police say the baby was in a car seat in the back of his mother’s car when she ran inside an apartment around 5:00 a.m. this morning on Wandsworth Drive.

The boy’s grandfather says a man jumped in the car when his daughter went to the apartment’s front door to get her sister.

Police say the man apparently realized there was a baby in the car and ditched it on Fairfax Avenue.

Using the city’s camera system, officers found the car within 10 minutes. The baby was evaluated at ECU Health Medical Center as a precaution.

A Pitt County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was able to find Taylor a block away.

Police say the mother will not face any charges as the whole thing happened in just seconds. The mother was at the apartment door, turned around, and saw the car leaving. She then ran after the car, police say.

Taylor is in jail on a $250,000 secured bond.
