RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – A Greenville man remains in jail after being charged in an insurance scheme that involved stealing people’s identity.
State Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey says Nicholas Bennett netted more than $150,000 in the fraud.
The 43-year-old Bennett is charged with two counts of identity theft and obtaining property by false pretense greater than or equal to $100,000.
Causey says the man got the names, birthdates, and social security numbers of two people. After making credit transactions in their names, Bennett is accused of then submitting and selling life insurance policies of the unknowing people from five life insurance companies.
Bennett was arrested Thursday and remains jailed on a $300,000 secured bond.
