Greenville house fire devastates family of five

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A house fire Thursday afternoon here in the East has devastated a family of five who lived in the home.

According to Greenville Fire and Rescue (GFR) Battalion Chief Bryant Beddard, crews were called around 4:51 p.m. to 405 Arthur Street in Greenville regarding a house that had caught fire.

Terrence and April Hooks lived in the home along with their 15-year-old, 16-year-old, and 20-year-old. According to Terrence, everyone in the home was either in their bedrooms or living rooms watching TV when suddenly Terrence heard frantic knocking on the front door. It turned out to be a neighbor letting them know the back of their home was on fire.

“So we ran out of the house and went behind the house and we saw smoke it was in a blaze, it was just blazing everywhere so we ran back in and called 911 and got everyone out of the house,” Hooks said.

According to officials, the cause of the fire is still under investigation and the family is working to get in contact with the Red Cross.
