Greene Co. parents voice concerns over “inappropriate” messages they say tennis coach sent to players

Parents say this ordeal has caused them to be frustrated and concerned as they feel nothing is being done about the situation

GREENE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Parents voiced concerns to the Greene County Board of Education about a high school tennis coach that parents say sent inappropriate messages to players.

Monday, the Greene County Board of Education held a meeting and multiple parents of students at Greene Central High School attended to speak about coach Tim Medlin.

According to the parents, at the beginning of August, the girl’s tennis coach sent out multiple messages to the players that were inappropriate, with one parent saying it made her daughter feel uncomfortable. In the meeting, another parent said she saw the messages, with one of them being Coach Medlin asking the girls to dance to an inappropriate song for two minutes.

WITN was sent more messages, though we could not verify who sent those texts.

Parents say this ordeal has caused them to be frustrated and concerned as they feel nothing is being done about the situation.

One parent spoke to the board members about how she wants more to be done. “You didn’t care to inform the girls. We entrust you with our students and it seems like you chose to do what’s best for Greene County than our girls. We as parents protect and guard our child’s innocence in a world that is constantly trying to rob them of it. I’m advocating that we guard and protect, nurture, teach guide, and equip our children so that when they do go out into the world they are supported in who they are and what they believe in.”

During the meeting, attorney Henry Smith said all employees involved have a right to confidentiality and the board is legally and ethically obligated to keep its personal matters confidential and asked the parents to understand.
