GPD officer injured responding to a domestic call as shots are fired, man barricaded inside home

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) -A Greenville police officer was injured responding to a domestic call Tuesday night when shots were fired as the suspect remains barricaded inside a home.

Greenville police say Hooker Road between West Arlington Boulevard and Howell Street is shut down.

Shortly after 8:30 tonight GPD officers responded to 600 A2 Glendale Drive after receiving an “open line” 911 call, believed to be a domestic dispute. When an officer arrived to check on the people inside the apartment, the suspect shot through the door, injuring the officer. The officer was taken to ECU Health Medical Center and is expected to recover. It is unclear at the moment whether the injuries he sustained are from shotgun pellets or shrapnel from the door.

The suspect is currently barricaded inside the apartment.

GPD’s Emergency Response Team is on scene and has evacuated neighboring apartments.

Anybody who has not been instructed by officers to evacuate should shelter in place.

All others are advised to avoid the area.

We have a reporter on the scene and will update the story as we learn more.
