Golden Ticket Cinemas closing Washington theater location

WASHINGTON, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina movie theater chain has announced that it’s closing its doors soon.

Golden Ticket Cinema says that it will be closing their Washington location on Tuesday.

The theater, located on W. 15th Street, shared the news on its Facebook page.

“We thank the community for all their love and support over so many years,” the post reads in part.

It goes on to promote its new Greenville Grande Theater location on Greenville Boulevard.

WITN reached out to Golden Ticket Cinemas President John Bloemeke who confirmed the closure.

“There was a rumor we were closing a couple of weeks ago that was premature, but now it is official. We loved bringing the movies back to Washington in 2017, when Carmike/AMC closed, and we were so proud to make it through COVID,” Bloemeke said. “We worked tirelessly to figure out a way to remodel the building and stay, leaving no stone unturned, but at the end of day the efforts were not fruitful. It’s a very sad day for Golden Ticket, and I’m sure folks are disappointed, but I hope they come visit us in our new location in Greenville and use their loyalty points, annual buckets and gift cards.”

The grande location officially opened earlier this month.
